About Spache the Spatula
Welcome to my little slice of the Internet! First of all, thank you so freakin’ much for visiting my blog! I am tickled pink by each and every visitor, but even more so by the comments you leave!
I’m Rachael, a twenty-something foodie living in Seattle. This is the place where I share all of my favorite recipe creations and adaptations. Sometimes, I even throw in a casual restaurant review for meals out that really “wow” me. You’ll find all sorts of food here: sumptuous risottos, outrageously decadent cakes, and, shockingly, lots of veggies and “healthy” recipes. I don’t claim to be an expert, and I’m not a trained chef (I only play one at murder mystery parties!), but I sure do have a passion for good food!
I discovered the food blogging community shortly after moving to Seattle (from the sunny Gulf coast of Florida) in the summer of 2008. I was overwhelmed by the amazingly fresh ingredients I had access to out here in the Pacific Northwest, and began looking up recipes online. This, of course, lead to a massive obsession with food blogs. At the end of 2009, I finally decided to start one of my own in order to keep track of all of the recipes that I tried out and created.
You’re probably wondering what “Spache the Spatula” means (and probably how to even pronounce it). When I was little, my cousins, Sara and Allie, lovingly, called me “Spache”—rhyming with “Rach.” They also, with the same amount of love but also a whole lot of teasing of the likes only family can administer, began calling me “Spache the Spatula.” While as a child, it irritated me to no end, I have since warmly embraced it. The culinary-themed nickname may have been a bit of fortuitous foreshadowing! When I decided to create this blog, I immediately knew that it was the perfect title.
What do I like aside from delicious, delectable, delights? I’m so glad you asked!
I have a freakish obsession with the ocean, and specifically sharks. I love SCUBA diving, and my strangest life goal is to open-water dive with a Great White Shark (no cages, people!).
I have a Bachelor’s of Arts in English from the University of Washington, and I am a voracious reader when I want to be. Nine times out ten, when you put a book in my hands, I won’t stop reading (not to eat, sleep, talk to others…) until I finish it.
My newest adorable, little time-sink is my Dingo-esque pup, Rook. He’s a prior stray who is a lazy, couch potato inside, but becomes Mr. Barky-Pants the second he steps foot outdoors… working on it ;).
