Okay, so this recipe has little to do with the Fourth of July…
I mean…it’s bright orangey-yellow and includes neither red, nor white, nor blue, buuuuut, it is super delicious, and absolutely perfect for Summer! (And I can promise you that no one at your Fourth of July get-together would turn one of these babies down.)
Remember the incredibly delicious Strawberry Key Lime Margaritas that I made a couple months ago (that are ironically a far better fit for Friday based on color)? These are based off that recipe, and they are just as tasty, but a bit more tropical. I guess I’m getting in the mood for my Caribbean cruise, this month!
The mango in these makes them so super creamy, not near as icy-tasting as typical margaritas. It’s almost like a smoothie! Except…an alcoholic smoothie, which is arguably the best kind there is 😉
These are sweet, a tad sour, and pack just a tiny kick from the special mixture that rims the lip of the glasses. What’s in that mixture? Flaky sea salt, granulated sugar, fresh lime zest, and classic Tajin. Tajin is a spice mixture of chili flakes, salt, and lime that I found at my grocery store after they were handing out fresh pineapple with the stuff sprinkled on it—holy crap SO good! I immediately purchased a bottle. It’s kinda incredible, and apparently is very popular in Mexico, but is just making its way here.
Oh, and just FYI, Tajin has zero idea I’m talking about their product, nor did they compensate me in any way. It’s just a discovery I made at my supermarket that I’m a bit too excited about, haha!
It’s really important to use a nice, ripe mango for this, because we want it to add in an awesome sweetness, not any sourness that an underripe mango will bring. Of course, if your mango *does* end up being a bit underripe, you can add in a bit more agave to temper things a bit.
Yield: 2 margaritas
