Old-Fashioned Pumpkin Spice Donuts
Donuts, or doughnuts?
Which do you say? …Or rather “spell”?
I use both. I guess it just depends on my mood. “Doughnuts” seems like the classier, more hoity-toity aunt, while “donuts” is that familiar friend. Ya know? (Yes, I just compared the separate spellings of a word to people, and then went on about it far too long…)
ANYWAY, no matter what you call ’em, these are crazy good.
Can we just all take a second and admit something?
Baked donuts ain’t got nothing on fried. Baked donuts are maybe easier, and definitely healthier, yes. But we all know they do not taste better. Sorry, you guys, it’s just a fact. Don’t get me wrong, they can be super tasty, just not as tasty… (You have NO idea how difficult it was for me to not write: “Donut get me wrong.” My terrible love for bad pun humor is something I have to physically restrain.)
So, I fried these. Actually, I fried them in coconut oil, which is kinda neat-o, and very delicious.
Oh and yes, more pumpkin. You didn’t think that short break of posts with no orange squash in sight would last long did you? No real respite from pumpkin in the Fall, guys.
These have a whole bunch of pumpkin in ’em, because it’s not only in the dough, but it’s in the glaze! And the glaze is disgustingly addicting and you have to try real hard not to eat it all by the fingerful so that you can coat your glorious donuts.
Speaking of pumpkin, though, I created this post for my friends at Food Fanatic as a part of Pumpkin Week. Yes, that’s an entire week full of many, many pumpkin recipes!
And just when you thought that was enough, that it couldn’t get better, guess what? There’s a giveaway over there for some amazing pieces from Le Creuset! Check it out!
Oh my GAWD these look good!!! Also, I would have loved that donut pun. When in doubt, always pun.
Haha, I'm so glad someone can appreciate my terrible sense of humor! I'm totally of the camp the believes puns are the cleverest form of humor, but many people find then total groaners š
These donuts are simply divine. I absolutely love them. Thanks for posting this. I can’t wait to make them
Thank you so much! I hope you love them as much as I do!!!
I always feel so bad about deep frying that I bake, then I feel even worse because I know the amazing taste I’m missing out on! We say doughnut here – I guess it’s the English in us. I do always type it up wrong though so go figure? These look lovely š
Haha! I'm the same way, to be honest. I've baked more donuts than I've fried! But OMG the fried ones are like 2087239868x better.
And thank you, Jess!
There’s nothing like homemade freshly fried pumpkin spice donuts!! NEED!!
Ain't that the truth! š
These look awesome! Question: If I don’t have ready access to crĆØme fraĆ®che do you think that sour cream would work?
Thanks, Paul!
Sour cream will definitely work just fine! The donut shop whose donuts I based these off of use sour cream in theirs š
These look amazing and I love that your fried them in coconut oil!
Thank you, Amy!
I noticed such a big taste difference, and they somehow seemed less "oily."
Those doughnuts look incredible! Great idea to fry these using coconut oil š
Thanks, Ashley!!
Oh my GOSH. Rachael! These donuts…I literally have no words except I NEED. Would you be so kind as to give me all your leftovers?? š Seriously drooling over your gorgeous photos girl!
Oh man I WISH I still had leftovers! I may just need to make a whole other batch, then we can share 'em all š
Rachael, these doughnuts! That glaze! These doughnut holes! However you spell it, I am swooning over here! <3
Thank you, Elizabeth! You're so sweet!
