Raspberry Red Velvet Protein Shakes
Yep, more red velvet.
Actually, this week is going to be full of red velvet recipes. All the red and sprinkles are totally necessary, you know, because Valentine’s Day is Saturday, and all 🙂
(But I promise you won’t see another red velvet recipe again until next year after Friday, haha!)
This red velvet recipe is sweet, but it’s also totally healthy AND completely vegan!
I decided to make things just a bit fruity by throwing in some raspberries. Raspberries go super well with both vanilla and chocolate, and since red velvet is a combination of the two, they’re kinda perfect. Plus, they’re red, so they match!
These vegan shakes get their creaminess from coconut milk yogurt and almond milk, and their chocolaty-ness from cocoa powder and vegan chocolate protein powder.
I used Sunwarrior’s Warrior Blend chocolate protein powder in these shakes. I love that it’s a raw vegan, gluten-free protein, and it actually tastes a lot better than many of the whey-based proteins I’ve tried (and it’s not chalky—yay!). You could also use a vanilla protein powder in this, and then just up the cocoa powder a little bit.
Can we talk about how cute these mason jars are for just a second?! Mikey and I got them from a restaurant in downtown Seattle. We were served out desserts in them, then we got to take them home! I’m kinda, sorta, extremely obsessed.
Oh, and you know I had to top these shakes with sprinkles. I mean, they’re adorable little hearts, and they look so pretty on top of these red shakes!
Raspberry Red Velvet Protein Shakes
Yield: 2 servings
Ingredients:
- ice (as much as you want)
- 6 oz. vanilla vegan yogurt (I like coconut milk yogurt)
- 1 packet (25g) Chocolate Sunwarrior protein powder (or other vegan chocolate protein powder*)
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
-
1 cup almond milk
- 20 raspberries (fresh or frozen), plus more to top
-
red food coloring, enough to turn the shake red (I like the gel varieties)
- sprinkles (optional)
Directions:
- Add all of the ingredients to a blender, and blend until smooth.
- Pour into two glasses and garnish with more raspberries, and sprinkles, if desired.
*You can also use a vanilla protein powder, and add a bit more cocoa powder

Can we just talk abut the fact that you pretty much combined all the BEST THINGS in these gorgeous shakes?! I mean, they’re absolutely stunning! I love the color and the fact that there’s a ton of good stuff in ’em!
Thank you, Sarah!
Smoothies! Occasionally I’ll bake treats with them, but working around the texture can be tough.
I agree, but I do thing protein powder makes some awesome pancakes!
I remember seeing this on Instagram!! Or maybe, FB, I don’t remember – I saw it somewhere!! Anyhoo, this looks delicious.
Thanks, Liz!
Oooooh! So fun! I love mixing protein powder with yogurt, makes it so thick and yum. I have yet to find a vegan protein powder that doesn’t taste like dirt though, but I’ve heard great things about Sunwarrior!!
I love doing that too! Especially if it’s chocolate protein powder (then I usually also mix in that powdered peanut butter stuff for an awesome combo that tastes JUST like dessert!
First off who doesn’t love those mason jars and it’s perfect for valentine’s day coming up and not only the color of the shake but the raspberries and sprinkles add so much cuteness to the shake…looks so good and I can’t wait to try it out, but I love putting protein powders in my other foods like my pancakes or muffins, kinda makes them more filling and a little more tasteful in a way.
First off who doesn’t love those mason jars like they just help add to the valentine’s day theme. The color and raspberries as well as the sprinkles just top it off but the best part is that is vegan protein powder which I love because I’m vegan. But I love adding protein powders to other foods such as pancakes muffins and yogurt it just gives it more of a kick in my opinion. But I can’t wait to try making this shake for my boyfriend and I.
I actually like to mix it with greek yogurt to make a protein mousse or with a splash of cashew or almond milk to make a “frosting” to spread on rice cakes or toast.
I really want to try making protein powder pancakes. Or waffles!
I’ve made protein pancakes, but never waffles! That sounds like a brilliant idea!
I love making protein fluff for dessert! It’s very filling and satisfies any cravings I have. Casein powder, milk, and frozen berries- quick and easy!
in smoothies is my favorite way

Howdy! Quick question that’s totally off topic. Do you know how to
make your site mobile friendly? My site looks weird when viewing from my iphone.
I’m trying to find a theme or plugin that might be able to correct this problem.
If you have any suggestions, please share. Thanks!
WordPress actually has mobile-friendly plug-ins. My site is not currently “mobile-friendly” as the plug-in that I was using did not work with my custom recipe schema.
