Gorgeous Georges
You’re looking at a chicken sandwich, and wondering, “What’s with the name?”
Well, let me tell you! This is one of those family recipes with a weird name. It’s another one of my mom’s famous recipes, and since we always had them when I was younger, for the longest time I thought the name “Gorgeous Georges” was something that was ubiquitously known in all households. It wasn’t until years later that my mom told me the story of how they got their name.
Apparently, back in the 80’s, my mom was on a ski trip with a bunch her friends, and they decided to stop for lunch at a restaurant up on top of the mountain, mid ski run. There was a guy out back grilling up these sandwiches, and…you guessed it—his name was George! I guess they all thought he was totally gorgeous, and thus, the sandwiches he was making were forever called Gorgeous Georges! Very random.
So, what exactly are Gorgeous Georges (um, the sandwiches, I mean)? Grilled chicken breast + BBQ sauce + fresh pineapple rings + bacon + provolone cheese, all on a bun. They are a mouthful to be sure, but a super-dee-duper delicious one at that! They’re juicy, tangy, and kinda just hit all the right tastebuds, ya know?
They’re kinda perfect for a summertime cookout. Even though it’s actually not Summer, yet, it sure feels like it here! Max, my parents’ dog decided to sun himself while the Gorgeous George and I had a photo shoot š
These also very easy, and you can totally cook up the bacon ahead of time and keep it in the fridge until you’re ready to assemble everything and grill.
We like to put the bacon under the cheese, because it helps keep it on the sandwich. You can put the pineapple under, too, but that actually causes things to slide around a bit, so we like to just place the ring on top.
I hope you guys will love these as much as my family does!

Yield: 2 sandwiches
Ingredients:
- 1 large chicken breast, sliced in half
- salt & pepper
- BBQ sauce, + extra to serve, if desired
- 4 slices of bacon, cooked
- 2 slices of fresh pineapple about 1/2"-thick
- 2 slices provolone cheese
- 2 buns
Directions:
- Heat your grill over medium heat.
- Season the chicken on both sides with salt and pepper.
- Grill the chicken until just about cooked through, periodically basting with the BBQ sauce. When pretty much done, add two sliced of cooked bacon onto each piece of chicken and lay the slices of provolone over top, and cook until melted. Grill the pineapple rings alongside on the grill.
- To assemble, place the cheesy chicken breasts on the buns and the pineapple rings on top. Serve with more BBQ sauce, if desired.
Now this is my kinda burger. I don't eat minced meat so burgers are usually out for me, but this I could sink my teeth into with gusto. Thanks for sharing.
PS Love the name too!
Thanks so much!
I don't care what's up with the name…I just know I want one! š
Have a wonderful weekend!
Thanks!
